2020 had many bumps, not a lot of blessing and grief. In Afro beats, music did well. Blessing ears, lives, and times. Although we couldn’t enjoy this music in a club or concert it still was good. Music is good when you don’t need to go to a club or a concert to appreciate it. Some of the Afro beats projects dropped in 2020 did exactly that. We were able to listen to it at come and catch the vibe as if it was a timeless tune we have connected with before. I’m gonna give some notable projects in this article that gave us timeless tunes and will surely be played when the clubs open up.

The first project is Wizkids — Made in Lagos.

Made in Lagos is a timeless album that holds strong replay value. I love a good album, a body of work like that will always hold weight. The 3 best ways to describe this album that I’ve heard are a vibe or sunset on a rooftop in Miami with a cool glass of Presco, or the best description yet “This album makes me feel like having reckless sex around Lagos”. All these descriptions are all pretty accurate of the vibes the album gives. My personal favorites of the Album are “True love”, “Sweet one”, and “Mighty wine”. Again this Album has a high replay value so my favorites can easily change.

My next project to discuss is Burna Boy — Twice as tall.

His album is now Grammy-nominated and critically acclaimed. Burna boy Album was high anticipated especially after African Giant and the big splash it made. Twice as tall has some big-name producer, Timbaland, and some others. It had some amazing features like Stormzy, Naughty by nature, and more. My favorite of the Album is Real life and Bank on it. It was a good album overall but it does have a strong replay value. It does not create vibes like his other work. It was a good body of work but it didn’t give vibes to create timelessness. Congratulations to Burna Boy on the Grammy win as well.

Adekunle Gold — Afro-pop Vol.1.

Adekunle Gold will always be goated in his versatility. Fun fact about this Album a lot of the songs written were written in 2017. I thoroughly enjoyed this album. Some of my personal favorites from this album are “AG baby”, “pretty girl’, and “something different”. What I enjoyed about this album is it introduce the world to a different type of Afro beats. Afrobeat is expanding into more complex sounds but they still hold the Afro base drums, heavy bass, and all the other essentials.

NSG- Roots

In light of Afro-beats expanding. Let’s get into Afro -swing. Afro -swing a relativity new wing in Afrobeat. NSG is one of the faces of Afro-swing. Based in London, UK NSG a rap group made up of 6 members and are 1st generation, African immigrants. This is their second mix tape and they smashed it. My favorites of this album are Lupita”, “MCM”, and “Tinder”. NSG is doing well for the cultures. Look out for them in the next coming years, they are going places.

Davido of course made well on his promise and gave us an album.

An Even “Better time from the better time we had in 2019. The album is called A better time. This album is the regular Afro beast formula. If there is one thing Davido does;it’s creates hits. If you’re into the natural wedding Afro beats music this album for you. My favorites on this Album is “Lala and “The best.” The album is generally a good time. Since it’s Davido it has strong replay value. You’ll be hearing these songs from this album for the next 3 years.

The first EP I am mentioning from 2020 is from Oman Lay. He is new to the scene. He’s a versatile artist. In May 2020 he dropped an EP . CalledGet layed” .4/5 of the songs were amazing. Oman lay smashed the EP. Then he came back at the end of 2020 with another EP called “What have we done”. He did well in on that well. Oman lay is Up and coming artist to watch for in the next coming months. He’s definitely going to be a Big face in the expanding Afro-beats scene.

2020 gave us bangers, it gave us a blueprint for the decade. The year was slow in general but the music provided in the year was soothing for the time. It allowed us to find joy within a rough time. If you get one thing from this list of projects is Afro beats expanding and changing. It going to the world and we are making a splash.
